JOHNNIE  L.  WOLHETER                                                                                                                NOVEMBER 14, 2017

A memorial service for Johnnie L. Wolheter, age 80, will be  held on Monday, November 20, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the Princeton, Idaho Church of the Nazarene.  Pastor Kathy Lee Kramer will officiate at the service with a luncheon immediately following.   John passed away on Tuesday, November 14th at the Good Samaritan Society in Moscow, Idaho.

Johnnie was born February 5, 1937 at Moscow to Lester and Goldie (Clyde) Wolheter.  He was raised in Potlatch, attended Potlatch school, graduating from Potlatch High School in 1955.   Johnnie then went to work at the Potlatch saw mill for eight years, and then he then attended Barber school in Spokane where he learned his profession.   Johnnie barbered in Moscow for two years, and then opened John’s Barber Shop in Potlatch in 1967.  He operated it until retiring in 1999 after 32 years.   After his retirement, he helped his son Steve on the farm where he enjoyed many hours on the tractor. He always helped during harvest, but thought of it as more of a job instead of a good time, threatening that each year would be his last.

Johnnie Wolheter married Ida A. Bacca on June 2, 1957 at Potlatch, Idaho.  The couple made their home in Potlatch where they raised one son Steve. They have been lifelong Potlatch residents and celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this past June.

He had been a member of the Potlatch Lions Club, the N.R.A., the Snake River Gun Dog Club, and the Potlatch and Garfield Gun Clubs where he enjoyed shooting trap.  Johnnie refused to drive anything but a Chevrolet, and was an avid Dallas Cowboy’s fan, always making sure everyone knew it.  He also enjoyed leatherworking, guns, hunting, fishing, riding horses, camping, bird dogs and four wheeler riding with his grandkids.

Survivors include his wife, Ida, at the family home; one son Steve Wolheter (Joyce Carpenter), two grandsons, Hollice and Jack Wolheter, and Joyce’s girls, Cassie, Brookelyn, and Taylor.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Goldie, two half-brothers, Wayne Hemmelman and Floyd Wolheter, and a half-sister, Bernadine Bizaro.

Memorial gifts may be given to the Potlatch Ambulance and Fire Department, PO Box 63, Potlatch, ID 83855, or to the Garfield Gun Club, c/o Nikkie Pfaff, Box 11, Garfield, WA 99130.
