Velma Ruth (Strong) Krasselt

June 21, 1926 ~ August 6, 2017 (age 91) 91 Years Old

A memorial service for Velma Krasselt, age 91, will be held September 9, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. at the Princeton Church of the Nazarene. Pastor Kathy Lee Kramer will officiate at the service. A private family committal service will be held at Freeze Cemetery.  Mrs. Krasselt passed away August 6th at Aspen Park Care Center in Moscow.

Velma Ruth Strong was born June 21, 1926 in Latah County, Idaho to Arthur and Alice (McClure) Strong. She attended Mountain Home School, grades 1 thru 8, and then worked for room and board for families in Potlatch to be able to go to high school before the time of school buses and graduated in 1944.  Velma married Guy Everett Krasselt on October 8, 1944 at the Elmore Church north of Potlatch.

Following Everett’s service in the army the couple made their home on the Krasselt home place where they farmed and ranched.  The couple moved to Potlatch from the farm in 1974, and returned to the home place in 2010.  Velma and Everett were married 67 years before Everett’s death in 2012.

Velma worked tirelessly as a homemaker and also worked outside the home as a bus driver for Potlatch School and then as bookkeeper and sales clerk at Plummer and Wagner Building Supply until her retirement in 1994.

Velma was a lifelong member of the Elmore United Methodist Church and served the Lord first and foremost.  She loved writing poetry and letters, sewing, gardening, canning, cooking and spending time with family and friends. She enjoyed sharing all of her homemade gifts and food with everyone and anyone was always welcome in her home.

Survivors include her children and their spouses; Wayne and Mildred Krasselt of Potlatch, Melvin and Marta Krasselt of Potlatch, Clint and Nancy Krasselt of Potlatch, and Beverly Hoidal of Colville, WA; 13 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren; her siblings, Dean Strong of Gas City, Indiana, Carol Carter of Moscow, Lyle Strong of Post Falls, Idaho, and George Strong of Potlatch.  Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Velma was preceded in death by her husband Everett, son Wendell Krasselt, son-in-law Boyd Hoidal, and siblings Dwight Strong, Howard Strong, and Elizabeth Kreid.
