Adelita Vitalia Ortiz (Roybal)
AKA: “Della”, Mom, Nani & Auntie Della
Born: April 23, 1940 Entered Eternal Rest: December 3, 2023
Adelita (more known as “Della” throughout her life) was born to Ramon & Genevieve Roybal on April 23, 1940 in Santa Fe, New Mexico; one of their nine children, born fifth in line.
She told many stories that as a child, she was working in the fields with her family, growing and harvesting potatoes, sugar beets and anything they could sell. She even got to skip a grade when she worked in the fields helping the family. She was still just a child when her family relocated to Denver, Colorado where she would always tell you about getting lost when she was just 8 yrs. old. Before she became a teenager, her family relocated to Orange County, California, where she primarily grew up and went to school in Fullerton, California.
It was here she met her first love, Mateo Raul Ortiz at the age of 15 years old, and married him on May 15, 1959 at the tender age of 19. Together, they welcomed Dorothy and Michael Ortiz into the world. She would tell you of working as a maid at a hotel by Disneyland, helping her mother taking care of people, working at Beckman Electronics, or her uncle’s bar. Most of her life she was a single mother to her 3 children, whom she adored more than life itself and would do anything for.
After surviving a car accident that she shouldn’t have in 1972, she came across an old flame, Roberto O’Campo (who she called Bobby), and they shared their lives together for a short time with his 2 young sons. Once she found out she was pregnant with Angelina, she turned her life over, once again, to her Lord Jesus Christ. From that time, she served him until the day she entered eternal rest, where she could be with him for eternity; that’s what her beliefs were. She was honest, stubborn, feisty and funny, but most of all, she had a HUGE heart that she loved everyone wholeheartedly with; she always did the best she could, with what she had. She enjoyed hobbies like pottery, drawing, recycling, family, gardening, playing music by ear, crocheting, sewing and working with her hands in any way she could. She even volunteered at Arroyo Elementary School in Pomona, CA for about 10 years before she pursued her high school diploma at 51 years of age, followed by a degree in dental hygiene. In December of 2019, she moved to WA, with her daughter, Angelina, who oversaw her care where she resided in Tekoa, WA, and who was by her side when she entered eternal rest at approximately 5:45 PM.
Della was preceded in death by both her parents (1959 & 1991), 7 siblings, her estranged husband (2011) and her 1st born child - daughter Dorothy Ortiz (July 5, 2023). She is survived by her younger sister Phebe Ybarra of Ball Ground, GA; her beloved son Michael Ortiz of Huntington Beach, CA; her loving daughter Angelina Wooten of Spokane, WA; her 6 grandchildren: Rishelle Davis, Destinie Benitez, Kevin Wooten, Ambriyanna Wooten (Cody), Brianna Mahieu (Nick) and Tyler Ortiz; as well as her 10 great-grandchildren: Amauri Thomas, Jazzmine Davis, Jayden Hernandez, Dominick Moore, Sophia Rodriguez, Winry Wooten, Olivia Rodriguez, Greyson Wooten, Gabriela Hubbard and Colson Mahieu. She’s also survived by countless nieces, nephews, great nieces & nephews and so on…….
