Doloris Young, 86, of Oakesdale, Washington, passed away peacefully on February 5, 2026.
Born July 10, 1939, in Spokane, Washington, Doloris grew up north of Tekoa on the family farm and graduated from Tekoa High School in 1957. She met the love of her life, George Young, while working as a waitress at Happy’s Cafe in Tekoa. George was working for Everett Hay during harvest and would stop in to eat — a simple meeting that led to a remarkable 67-year marriage. They were married on September 14, 1958.
While George attended Washington State University, Doloris pursued beauty school. Their early years together took them on an adventure to Sitka, Alaska, where George managed a bowling alley. During their three years there, their children Kevin and Kim were born. That time in Alaska became one of the great highlights of their lives, filled with adventure and lifelong friendships.
After returning to the Tekoa–Oakesdale area, they settled east of Oakesdale. George worked for John Doneen Farms, and Doloris began what would become a 33-year career with the Oakesdale School District cafeteria, eventually serving as head cook before retiring. She also shared her talent and love through her home business, Doloris’ Cakes. Across Whitman County and the Spokane area, countless birthdays, weddings, and celebrations were sweetened by her cakes — a gift many will always remember.
Doloris was preceded in death by her parents, Alma and Milton, her brother and five sisters. She is survived by her loving husband, George, at home; her son Kevin (Sharon); her daughter Kim; her sister Geraldine Krell; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren, with an eighth on the way.
Doloris will be remembered for her warmth, hard work, and the way she brought people together — often around a table, always with love.
Celebration of life for Doloris will be scheduled for April 25th, 2026, at the Oakesdale High School at 11:00 A.M.
Memorials may be made to the Doloris Young Memorial Foundation or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
