Obituary Donald A Nagle

Don Nagle of Potlatch, Idaho passed away August 22, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane, WA from age related causes with his family at his side.

Don was born May 31, 1931 to Egan & Edith (Anshutz) Nagle in Latah County, Idaho.  He attended school in Princeton and Potlatch, Idaho.

Don married Betty Carscallen August 16, 2052 at Potlatch while on leave from the US Marines.  They made their home in Santa Ana, CA for a year, then returned to make their home on a ranch north of Potlatch where they now live.

As a teenager Don worked for the county road district.  When he became of age, he worked at Potlatch Forests mill in Potlatch.  When the mill closed down, he got his own self-loading logging truck and had his own logging company.  He then went to work for Noel Blum Masonry.  Then he started his own excavating business in Moscow and worked there until the housing marked declined.  He came back to logging, his favorite job, with his horses very near our home until he retired in 1993.

In Don’s younger years, he packed in to hunting camp with family members on the Lochsa and the Clearwater area.  He finally started his own outfitting business in the Clearwater area where he took many family members and friends to hunt and help with his clients.

Don was a charter member to both the Silver Spurs Remuda saddle club and North Idaho Draft Horse Assn.

Don was an avid horseman from childhood.  With a saddle horse he rode in o-mok-sees, showed in horse shows.  With draft horses, he competed in pulling classes, showed from cart to 8-up in draft horse shows.  He took a 6-up to Pendleton Roundup each year to pull 3 ancient freight wagons.  He took family on week long wagon rides in the back country.  His legacy continues by teaching the Nagle families and his Moore grandchildren to drive multiple hitch draft horses.

Don is survived by his spouse, Betty; daughter Marcia Moore; grandchildren Brandon (Shelly) Moore, Riley (Vanessa) Moore; great-grandchildren, Zoey, Cooper, Jaxson, Cheyenne, Arianna; his sibling Shirley (Kenneth) King.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Egan & Edith Nagle; his siblings Vera Decker, Dorothy Fiscus, Elmer, Billy, Jerry Nagle.

Funeral 10:00 A.M September 3, 2024.  Burial will follow at Freeze cemetery, with the United States Marine Corps and Potlatch Post #10300 participating.  Everyone is invited to luncheon at Princeton Community center after burial.

Memorials may be made to the Potlatch Ambulance Fund or St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Potlatch.
