ESTHER NOWACK Obituary

Esther was born July 20, 1925 at Steele, North Dakota to Mikel and Ottilie (Zerbst) Tietz.

In 1926 Esther's family moved to Glaslyn, Saskatchewan, Canada and returned to the United States, settling in the Potlatch area in 1941. She graduated from Potlatch High School in 1942. Esther worked for the Allen V. Smith Company in Garfield, Washington packaging split peas. Later on she worked at the Potlatch Mercantile Store. As World War II was then in full swing, they hired women at Potlatch Forests Inc., so Esther joined in working at the mill pulling lumber from the planer chain.

On December 6, 1945 she married Leo “Jim” Nowack. Esther then became a homemaker, baking bread, churning butter, sewing, planting a big garden and canning the produce to feed her growing family.

For years Esther was a very active member of the Freeze Community Church, and later attended churches in Potlatch and Princeton. She was also a member of the Ladies “3 in 1” Club at Mountain Home Grange. In later years she enjoyed reading and watching good TV programs.

Esther was a home body. Home, family and friends were important to her. If you came to visit, even unexpectedly, she quickly extended her hospitality while visiting over a cup of coffee and a homemade cookie or other delicious snack.

Survivors include her son, Ronald Nowack (Becky) and daughter Sandra Nowack. Two grandchildren, Megan Weaver (John) and Micah Nowack (Harmony). She has four great-grand children, Rebekah (Erik) Brown, Mikayla Weaver, Claire Nowack and Otto Nowack and a host of nieces and nephews.

Esther was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Nowack; five brothers, Ed, Bill, Gus, Adolph and Art Tietz; and by sisters Emma Taylor, Ann Taylor, Bertha Daily and Margaretta Emerson In lieu of flowers, may we suggest you make a donation to your favorite charity or The Gideon’s International, P.O.
