John Richard Boolen, 70, of Charleston, SC, husband of Cindy Boolen, passed away unexpectedly on August 21, 2024, in Tekoa, Washington, while visiting his sister. Born on August 6, 1954, in Corpus Christi, TX, John was the son of the late Mary Boolen Sizemore and stepfather Rufus Sizemore, as well as the late John Austin Boolen and stepmother Fran. He began his career as an Air Force medic and went on to become a dedicated Registered Nurse, serving over 35 years at Roper, Charleston Memorial, and the Medical University of SC Hospitals as a staff nurse, charge nurse, and nursing supervisor. He earned degrees in business and nursing, along with a master's degree in nursing management. John retired in 2014 and enjoyed a wide range of interests, including history, genealogy, reading, antiques, archaeology, and the beauty of nature. He was a Mason and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in his youth. He is survived by his loving wife, Cindy Boolen; daughter, Jennifer Boolen; sister, Linda Sundance; stepsister, Geri Braun (Jeff); stepbrother, Jeff Sizemore (Angie); father-in-law, Hubert Inman; mother-in-law, Bobbie Inman; sister-in-law, Melinda Wagoner (Ralph; brother-in-law, Huey Inman (Dianna); numerous nieces, nephews, extended family; and beloved cats, Pippi and Jinglebell. He was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, his father and stepmother, and his stepsisters, Michelle and Crystal. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, September 7th, at Charleston Baptist Church, 13 San Miguel Road, Charleston, SC, with visitation from 11a.m. to 12p.m. followed by the service.
