Joy Annette Puckett
Joy Annette Puckett (Heaton), passed away on March 6, 2024, at the age of 65 in Latah, Washington. She succumbed to glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer. She was born on February 21, 1959, in Spokane. Joy was a native of Tekoa, Washington, where she graduated in 1977 and went on to attend Washington State University.
Joy dedicated a better part of her career to working in education, supporting staff for over 25 years as the Business Manager for Tekoa School District. She later transitioned to the role of Fiscal and Human Resources Administrative Services Director at Liberty School District, where she spent the last three years of her career and quickly became a beloved part of the District Office. She always labored tirelessly to provide high quality work with a strong devotion to her colleagues.
In her free time, Joy enjoyed various hobbies including running with friends, DIY/home renovation projects, boating, and spending quality time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She cherished the simple moments of life, whether stargazing from her deck or watching the sunset from the lake. She was known for her winning smile, listening ear, and encouraging nature. You could often find her working in her yard or meticulously maintaining her home of 30 years in Latah.
Those left to cherish Joy’s memory include her loving parents Jim and Claudia Heaton; brother Doug Heaton (wife Biljana); sister Jamey Fracz (husband Chris); sister Beth Mathison and numerous extended family. Joy is survived by her husband of forty years, Scott Puckett; her daughters Mallory Kraemer (husband Kyle), Shelby Dickinson (husband Joseph), and her cherished grandchildren Rowan, Klay, Olivia, Grant, and Reed. Joy will be dearly missed by all who knew her, but leaves a lasting legacy of “joy.” She knew Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and is free, whole, healthy and in her eternal peace.
A memorial service to honor and celebrate Joy's life will be held at Liberty High School on March 23rd at 1:00pm. If you feel compelled to support Joy’s family at this time, they ask that you consider a donation to the Glioblastoma Research Organization. https://gbmresearch.org
