LARRY BROWN Obituary

Larry Brown passed away on February 9, 2021 at the age of 67 at his home surrounded by his family and friends, after his continuous battle with cancer.  He was born on April 29, 1953 in Colfax. Larry was a lifetime resident of Oakesdale, WA and graduated from Oakesdale High School in 1971, and attended Spokane Community College. When Larry’s father passed away suddenly in the spring of 1972, Larry came home to farm the family ground with his brother Mike. Larry then began his lifelong dream of farming in the Oakesdale and surrounding areas for the last 49 years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for 40 years, serving as Worshipful Master of the Oakesdale Lodge #55 numerous times,  a board member for the Whitman County Grain Growers from 1987-1996, and loved coaching his kids basketball and baseball teams.

Larry and Cheryle married in December of 1977, in Oakesdale, where they continued to reside and raise their family. Larry enjoyed following his children, grandchildren, and every other Nighthawk through all of their extracurricular activities. When he was not farming or going to various Nighthawk events, Larry enjoyed his time with family and friends at their place on the St. Joe River, where he would float, fish, nap, play corn hole, sit around a camp fire, and was known as the resident chef. Larry was known in the Oakesdale community as a “Big Teddybear”. You would see him holding babies or giving everyone he either knew or had just met great big hugs with love pats that could set off a Richter scale.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents Pete and Wanda Brown, his brothers Robert and Ronald Brown, and his sister Diana Duncan.

Survived by Larry is his wife of 44 years Cheryle, his children Jodi (Bill) Lanius, Josh (Hilory) Brown, Jenna (Nick) Fleming. Grandchildren, Alex, Austin, Aliya, Logan, and Will. His brothers Mike (Laurie) Brown, and Richard Brown.  As well as the many cousins, nephews, nieces, in-laws, and all of their children.

He was greatly loved and will forever be missed by family and friends. He blessed us all with his love, laughter, joy, and smile as well as the occasional reminder that you didn’t do it “his way.”

We will celebrate Larry’s life on February 27th at 4pm, at Larry Brown’s barn on 1432 Trestle Creek Road, in Thornton.

In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorials be made to Oakesdale ASB, FFA, or Boosters.
