SHIRLEY DARLENE (FLOWERS) CHRISTMAN

Shirley Darlene Flowers Christman passed away Saturday March 1st, 2025 in Burlington, WA at the age of 87. Shirley was born in Garfield, WA September 9th, 1937, to Vance and MayBelle (Augir) Flowers. She was a cherished daughter, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, and was beloved by her older sister Sherry Flowers Shahan, of Colfax. 

Shirley completed high school in Garfield, Washington, and met her husband Daniel H. “Dan” Christman there. They were married in Elberton, Washington on Christmas Eve day, 1954 while Dan was on leave from his U.S. Army service. Their son, Daniel Vance Christman was born while they made their home in Garfield.  Over the years Dan’s work opportunities took them to multiple locations and made them many friends in Washington and Northwest Oregon.

Shirley was her son’s biggest fan through his school years of wrestling and football and could not possibly have been prouder of him or his professional accomplishments all through her life. In the last few years, Shirley had resided with her son and his wife and had enjoyed and entertained a warm group of expanded friends who valued her humor and kindness, and all of whom had become very dear to her.

Shirley worked for many years as a bookkeeper for Payless Drug Store until the company closed. She loved all babies and dogs. She was a talented and accomplished quilter with a distinctive personal eye for colors, and with many of those exquisite quilts created for, and gifted, throughout her family. She loved researching her Augir and Flowers family’s genealogy, and she connected with many relations across the U.S.  Shirley gained many friends and much pleasure and fun in seniors’ gatherings while living in Newport and Bothell. She loved baking, cooking, and games; dominoes, (especially Mexican Train), Pinochle, and Bunko. But, even better, Shirley loved to have just a good long “visit” with absolutely anyone.

Shirley is survived by her son, Daniel (Tish) Christman of Burlington, WA, grandchildren; Brendan (Ari) O’Neill of Bellingham, Kelsie (Chris) Meyer of Maple Valley, and Molly (Shane) Smith of Bothell; great-grandchildren; Seamus, Griffin and Delanie; her niece Mikelyn Getz of Colfax, nephew Mike (Velva) Wynne of Packwood, and other nieces and nephews.   Shirley was preceded in death by her grandson Marcus Christman-Handcuff in 2025, her husband Dan in 2011, her sister Sherry, and her parents.

Shirley will be laid to rest next to her husband at the Garfield, WA cemetery following a graveside service on March 29, 2025.
